Big Learning Event Scholarship

The Office of Sustainability is offering 5 undergraduate students and 5 graduate students a scholarship to gain them admission to the 2013 UW Big Learning Event (http://biglearningevent.wisc.edu/) on June 5th and 6th at the Gordon Dining and Event Center. The event will give students the unique opportunity to engage with today’s brightest minds and find solutions to today’s most pressing issues. Guest speakers include:
  • Saleem Ali, Professor of Environmental Studies at the University of Vermont’s Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources and the founding Director of the Institute for Environmental Diplomacy and Security at UVM’s James Jeffords Center for Policy Research
  • Jill Tarter, Astronomer and former Director of the Center for SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence)
  • Lynda Barry, Author and cartoonist credited with expanding the literary, thematic and emotional range of American comics
  • Molly Carnes, Tenured Professor in the Department of Medicine at UW-Madison and Co-Director of WISELI (Women in Science & Engineering Leadership Institute)
  • Etienne Wegner, educational theorist and a leader in the field of social learning systems

The application has two components: a cover sheet and two (very) short essays. Both the cover sheet and the prompts are included in . International Symposium on Media & Mass Communication Seeking Participants

Panel on Public Health

This is a great opportunity for students to learn more about the diverse work experiences and training the field of public health offers, and the different roles public health professionals play in the Madison area.

The panel includes the following:
Lori DiPrete Brown, Associate Director for Education and Engagement, Center for Global Health

Carolyn Hood, Population Health Institute Fellow, Chronic Disease Prevention and Cancer Control Program

Paula Tran Inzeo, Population Health Institute Fellow, WI Institute for Health Equity

The panel is Wednesday, May 1 from 5:00-6:00 p.m. in Union South (TITU). 

Morgridge Center is Hiring a Student Intern

The Morgridge Center, in partnership with the Institute for Research on Poverty is hiring a student intern for the 2013-14 academic year. This is a unique opportunity for a student looking to gain skills in analyzing technical data and writing for broad audiences. Application will be until a successful candidate is found. This intern will receive a stipend for the year with the opportunity to receive course credit.
